Seynaeve Zoological Institute

The Seynaeve Zoological Institute (SZI) is the educational and scientific organisation supporting the long-term vision of the Brussels Animal Park. Dedicated to bringing zoology closer to everyone, the SZI aims to make the world of zoology accessible, engaging, and inspiring through its magazine, social media channels, and educational initiatives.

Beyond education, collaboration lies at the heart of our mission. We strive to create opportunities for individuals and organisations passionate about wildlife by encouraging cooperation, sharing knowledge, and supporting zoological initiatives.

Whether you are a wildlife enthusiast, student, researcher, or organisation, we invite you to join us in promoting a greater understanding and appreciation of the natural world. You can learn more about the SZI here on our website and by following our social media channels.

Community Building

Creating opportunities. Sharing knowledge. Connecting people.

A strong zoological landscape is built not only by institutions and established professionals, but also by the people who are beginning their journey within it. The SZI aims to create opportunities for people who are passionate about zoology, wildlife and conservation to share their work, develop their skills and become part of a wider community of wildlife enthusiasts.

Through our digital platforms and magazine, we provide a space for photographers, writers, illustrators, filmmakers, researchers and other contributors to showcase their work. Contributions are reviewed by the SZI and, where appropriate, may be selected for publication. We welcome people at all stages of their journey, while recognising that having work published and shared can be particularly valuable for students and those at the beginning of their professional careers.

Our aim is not simply to provide a place to publish work. By giving contributors recognition for their work and, where they choose to make their contact details available, providing a way for others to get in touch with them, we hope to help people discover one another and create connections that can extend beyond the SZI itself. A photograph, article or illustration can therefore be more than a contribution: it can be an introduction to someone's skills, interests and perspective.

The SZI also aims to help bridge the gap between young talent and the organisations that make up the zoological and conservation landscape. We provide space for zoos, conservation organisations and other relevant institutions to share opportunities that may be of interest to students and young professionals, helping them discover ways to gain experience and take their first steps into the field.

Alongside these opportunities, our magazine and digital channels serve as a way of sharing research, conservation initiatives and developments from the European zoological and wildlife landscape. We want these platforms to make knowledge and work accessible to people who are already involved in the field, as well as to those who simply share an interest in wildlife.

Ultimately, community building at the SZI is about creating a space where people can contribute, discover new perspectives and find opportunities to share their passion. Whether you are an experienced professional, an aspiring photographer, a student writing your first article or simply someone with a strong interest in wildlife, there should be a place for you to contribute.
